In California, the last days of summer are upon us. Another season has passed. This one passes with a tinge of sadness. With Labor Day nearing, our son, David, has finished his time with us, and returned to the University. It seems like yesterday, that he opened the door and greeted his Mother with a Happy Mother’s Day hug and kiss. He seemed taller. His beard was that of a man.

The Fourth of July is always a special day. It brings back memories of my childhood, in western Nebraska. It was always hot. It never seemed to rain. And fireworks were legal. My friends and I would happily try out every manner of explosive. We tried out everything from simple firecrackers, to fountains, to pop-bottle rockets. Sometimes we enjoyed the bang. Sometimes, being the boys that we were, we just had to try out the explosive power. Sometimes it was sticks piled together, or perhaps toy soldiers.
We just completed a whirl-wind trip to Wyoming. While we wanted to do several things, the first order of business was to move our son, David, from San Jose, to Laramie, Wyoming. He has transferred from De Anza Jr College to the University of Wyoming. He is studying Geology, hoping to find a career based on what he learns.
